GDMonline Welcome to GDMonline

If you've never heard of GDM, or Game Developers Magazine as the DOS version is titled, then you'll be wondering what this site is all about, and who the heck I am.

Well, if you want to learn how to develop games for IBM PC and compatible machines, you've come to the right place. At this site you'll find articles, reviews and other information directly related to game development, and all of it is aimed at the amateur game developer!

To make it easy to skim articles and get an idea of their content without actually reading them, I'm using magazine style block quotes to pick out important notes from the text ... like this:

"If you want to learn how
to develop games ... you've
come to the right place"

Those of you who have seen the DOS versions of GDM will recognise a lot of the articles here, as they've been reproduced (and in some cases, updated) from the DOS versions.

Unlike the DOS issues, this site will be updated regularly and I'm hoping it will contain a lot more information than I could put in those. In fact, it's likely that the DOS version of GDM will not be produced again once this site is fully operational.

Anyway, whoever you are, I hope you find something useful on this site. If you find anything useful elsewhere, why not consider using the "feedback" icon on the main menu to send it to me, so I can make it available to other readers. This could be anything from an article to a review to simply a hint about another site.

The only way this site can grow is with your help, so please, support it if you can.

Me? I'm Phil Inch, a 27 year old amateur game developer, who two years ago, frustrated at the lack of information available about writing games, decided to do something about it by starting GDM as a forum for the exchange of information. Almost two years later, GDM has hundreds of thousands of readers from all over the world, and I've aged at approximately eight times the normal rate ;-)

In the absence of anyone else to interview (yet) I've interviewed myself in the interviews section. If you're interested to know more about me (why?) check that section out!

I look something like this ... ... although I was 21 then ;-)
